Dinner Meeting with Speaker Mark Juhas, Superior Court Family Law Judge
February 20 @ 5:45 pm
The San Marino City Club is pleased to have Superior Court Family Law Judge, Mark Juhas, as our speaker on Tuesday, February 20, 2018, at the San Marino Center. His topic will be: “Fairness in the Courts—Do Court Users Find Access to Justice?”
Judge Juhas is an expert in the field of family law, a frequent speaker and author on family law topics and is the Chairman of The State Bar of California’s Commission on Access to Justice. He is also considered by many to be the most experienced and competent family law judge in Los Angeles County, if not within the State of California. In 2016 he was selected as the Pasadena Bar Association Judge of the Year.
In his courtroom, Judge Juhas primarily deals with the children of married and unmarried couples who are going through a divorce or a child custody dispute. During this time many parents are not using their best parenting skills and Judge Juhas explains: “they’ve lost sight of what the kids need and we are sort of reminding them from time to time.”
He puts his empathy and problem-solving talents to work while dispensing justice. He has a big heart for people who are going through, probably, the most traumatic experience of their lives.
It is common in family court for participants to appear without an attorney. At times this creates significant judicial challenges, and this is what has led Judge Juhas to his work with the California Commission on Access to Justice. In this regard, Judge Juhas has said: “you want to do things in a way that’s going to allow both parents to find their way, but also that’s going to allow the child to find his or her way.”
